OK Mobile users. How does it look now?

I’ve disabled the I-pad theme enhancement that appears to have been causing people so many problems.  I’ll keep this post pinned for a little while to allow people to comment.  We’ll see how it plays out and go from there.

I also noticed that my default is to “display a mobile theme” by default.  I’m going to leave that on for now as I do not think that this has been the cause of the recent troubles but we can try that too if folk think it’s a problem.

Thanks for your patience.  It appears that wordpress sprung this on us without any warning and made it the default without notifying the bloggers.

UPDATE: Reader Submittal. A “Carbon Fiber CBX…

Redbird posted a good link to more pics in the comments section over on Do The Ton.  Check it out.  And Thanks Redbird!

Kurt sends in this stunner from a local bike night of his:

Steve, I love your blog, please keep up the great work! This is a insane carbon-fiber CBX I took pics of at our local bike night at Pinellas Park , Fl Quaker Steak on 2-23-11. This spot draws 1000’s of bikes on a good night. sorry I don’t have more info for you. I’ve got more pics of various nights if you’d like some.
Thanks again,Kurt

There’s a lot of love in that bike.  That swingarm is a nice touch too.  I’m curious about the tank. Is that solid Carbon fiber or is it an overlay? Looks trick either way but a real CF tank would be quite a build.
Thanks Kurt.

Beautiful Honda 450.

Back when they still had vintage events and races at Daytona you’d see bike like these all over the place…  I do love those pipes.

Can everyone “see” the blog OK?

I’ve had a few e-mails asking about the display settings of the blog. Apparently there might be some issues with display on smaller mobile devices. Does anyone else have similar issues? I haven’t changed anything on my end so I’m curious if it’s a system issue or the wordpress.

Thanks.

Reader Request for some info on the Montgomery Wards Mojave 260.

Pete Boyd wrote in with the following question and I though that someone out here might be able to help him out. I’m curious to know this myself actually.

I put a want ad in Craig’s List for any Italian singles
(motorcycles not ladies) and got a call from San Diego on this Mojave.
It had been sitting in a shed since 1981. It is an unrestored 1968
Montgomery Wards Mojave 260 with 1654 miles on the odometer. I read on a
site that Steve McQueen’s partner in desert racing and his stuntman (and
owner of the Triumph dealership in Hollywood), Bud Ekins, did the design
work for the Mojave. Both the body work and frame are different from the
street design Benellis/MW’s of that year. It certainly looks like a
knock off of the Rickman Matisse Triumphs from that period. If anyone
can confirm or deny that story, I would appreciate it. I just got it
running and thought I would send a quick photo. I look forward to seeing
what you have posted every day. Keep it up and thanks!
Pete Boyd

Anyone able to shed some light on this?

Excellent! And Congratulations!

Update: CL77 Hybrid.

Just got this info from Sam Simmons who sent me the pic:
The picture came to me via another Hoosier-Ellis Holman(a huge
vintage Honda enthusiast with many restorations to his credit) following
my request for a pic of a re-powered Honda CL77 scrambler(this bike’s a
CB77).
Background info is that there are in fact a number of these CB/CL’s ‘out
there’,as there’s at least one fellow(in TX,I believe) doing them for
others…..
I’d requested the pic because I’m interested in building similar, but
basing it on a CL77 with 4:4 high pipes(no baffles,only Snuff-R-Nots for
that ‘right’ sound).
And,there are other variations of this theme, using the CB350F and 400F
chassis as the basis.

That’s all I know,Steve…..

Thanks Sam!

This excellent bike was sent to me a while back and the e-mail got lost in a bit of an onslaught of messages that I received at that time. I can’t find the original message so if it was you please let me know so I can give proper credit. Thanks

Some Really Trick Mini Yamaha’s From 2 stroke Legend Sam simmons!

Sam Simmons sends in this pair of beauties. A pair of hopped up Yamaha BW (Big Wheel) 80’s.

Sam writes in:
Hi Steve,
Hope you’re doing well. Excellent ( new) site (as usual!!). I recently
redid a couple of Yamaha BW-80’s,so here are a few pictures for you…
Surprisingly, both BW’s were still in the hands of their original
owners, one in MO,the other in IL.
Both were in good overall condition, but pretty tired in the ‘Engine Dept’
. I ‘stretched’ the suspension on mine, while my wife’s is stock. Once the
exhaust  and intake systems are de-restricted,carb’s rejetted, these
little shits  fly…almost 50 mph.

They’re great little bikes for  swap meet transportation, and perfect for
inexperienced trail riders.

Best Regards,
Sam Simons

Holy Smokes! 50mph on these must be a hoot!

I like the Kenny Roberts colors!

Sitting Pretty!  Some nice clearance there!

How to raise em up!

Very Nice work!

The before pic!
