More information on the Greek hooligan videos and some great reader rides!

A reader from Greece was kind enough to do some translating and fill us in on the “Greek Hooligan” videos from the previous post. He also included some fantastic bikes of his own!

Hello there!
I would like to congratulate you on your great blog, I’ve seen very nice bikes there since I subscribed! Well done, it’s priceless!

I come (and still live here) from Greece, so I had a laugh watching those nice old videos from “Agios Ioannis”. This is a place in island of Evia, not far from Athens, were many athenian bikers use to go for a ride since the scenery is nice and the twisties are great. The guys in the video are race riders, especially the one on the 749, and local heros, so they know the road like the back of their palm, which of course is no excuse for that silly riding…The “disclaimer” at the start of the video says that “this has been done by professional riders, in a controlled (!!!! 😀 ) environment, so don’t try this at home and ride safely” Funny enough I dare say….(we must admit that their are pretty good, though)

Seizing the opportunity, I am including a couple of pics from some of my bikes.
First is my 1970 Ducati Scrambler 350, almost completely restored. I got the bike in 2003, and studies and PhD included I got it running in 2010….But it’s a charm…
Next, the scrambler is together with my mate’s 1979 XT 500, a really lovely bike, almost unrestored, just some paint jobs and slight engine repairs.
Finally, my lovely 660 smc in a break from work, on to the mountains near by.

Hope you like ’em.

Keep up the great work,
Best regards,
Thanasis Vgenis

This post is a great example of why the internet is so great. Thank you very much for the information sir and congratulations on your excellent collection! I like your taste in bikes!

Reckless greek hooligans on video!

We here at MCPOTD do not endorse this behavior… but damm. Anybody speak Greek?

Reader ride! Beautiful and original 1975 XS650

I love these bikes. I’m not sure how I’ve avoided owning one for so long. Dennis Callnon sends in this well cared for classic! He’s the original owner with 40k miles!

Outstanding!

Update: he made it. Dramatic rescue of motorcyclist from under burning car by passers-by!

I don’t have all the details on this yet and I’ll update with more info as I find it… but on behalf of bikers everywhere… Thanks folks! Very Nicely Done!
UPDATE: He made it: Excellent Link to ABC news story Here
“Doctors placed rods in Wright’s legs during surgery Monday night. He is expected to remain in the hospital for at least another three to four days to recover from a broken femur, broken tibia, broken pelvis and burns on both his feet.”

And let’s be careful out there OK.

Some really excellent reader submittals (with a cool car thrown in)…

I know I don’t do cars but this one fits the post..

Reader Jim Jenne sent in some shots of a stretched Hyabusa that he saw at an Italian sh… well here his original e-mail and post…

A week or so ago I went to the Wheels Of Italy show in Minneapolis..There was lots of cool Italian stuff there, but at the back of the lot sat this thing, I do not know what it is or who did it but thought it was very cool and thought I would send it in…Jim, Thanks for the great site!

Now this is a cool bike in it’s ow right but I answered that “There is a big cult following for these bikes and I generally don’t cover them on my blog very much as there are already a lot of folks who do. No offense but I’d LOVE to see more photos of the Italian bikes.”

I suspected that if Jim wasn’t too familiar about the Busa that he must know his really old Italian iron.. And he was kind enough to oblige!

Hey Steve…I will have some photos for you in a year or so…I just picked up a 250 Ducati Scrambler…

… I also just sold my 28 year project a 1957 Stanguellini 1100 Sports Racer, which I miss… my plan, to build a Café Racer that looks like the Stanguellini…should be a fun project!…I have been collecting ideas and plan to start soon…Jim

Wow that’s a nice car… you must have really wanted that scrambler!

Anyway then we struck gold..
Here are a few shots of Italian stuff from a trip to Monterey 2010…Jim

Great Stuff Jim! Thanks much and keep us posted on you Scrambler project!

I know I don’t do a lot of Drag Race posts…. but DAMM
