A Bonanza Hodaka 100 “back in the day”!

Excellent! Keep em coming folks. I promise I’ll kep it mixed up too.

Mark Madison sends in this cool old shot. I guess I’ll have to go digging through my moms old photo albums for some DT100 and Z50 shots of mine. I knew of a few of these Hodakas when I was a kid and yes they were fast as heck. May have been my first inkling about the performance of 2 strikes vs four strokes. Then I got the DT100 and that was it for me. Especially compared to all the similarly sized Hondas at the time.!

Me and my Bonanza Hodaka 100
Here’s a pic of my Bonanza around 1972. This was a pretty scary fast bike compared to my previous bike, a 1971 Honda CT70 3-speed. By the way, I sent the pictures of my Hodaka Super Rat you posted not long ago, you’ll be able to tell by the house.

A nice 1972 Hodaka Super Rat. I love the “period” Polariods and color shots like this…

… from “back in the day”.  One of these days I’ll sort through my moms old pics and flood the page with Z50’s, Trail 70s and 90’s and some yellow Yamaha DT100 action. Sigh.. my first 2 stroke. Fantastic power (especially after a trail 70) but a weak transmission.

A really cool Hodaka Tracker by John Kovalcik courtesy of Sutton Cycle Works.

Good thing I’ve gotten into the habit of checking the Spam filter regularly.  I’d have really hated to miss this one. This a really slick Hodaka courtesy of Mark over at Sutton Cycle Works.  Do yourself a favor and head over there to take a look. You won’t be sorry.

Anyway Mark writes in:

Hello FloradaSteve,
I see that you commented on the Champion Yamaha Twin( that I found on ebay) on ADVrider.
I noticed your signature with “My Blogs”. COOL!
I have been a fan of Motorcycle Photo of the Day for quite some time. First thing that I look at in the morning, even before coffee!
I even put a link to Motorcycle Photo of the Day on my website http://suttoncycleworks.com/links.html  (Thanks and back at ya! – MCPOTD)
If you wish, you are welcome to photos of my bikes.  (great stuff-  please stay tuned – MCPOTD)

I also know John Kovalcik, the builder of vintage 2-strokes here in Phoenix.
I have great photos of a Webco Hodaka 100 Replica that he built. The original was a one-off project bike by Webco and featured on the cover of Modern Cycle in February 1971. I am an illustrator/designer and made the art to replicate the one-off stickers on the tank.
I know that you don’t like photos in front of a garage door. I can “clip out” bike and clean up the photos if you wish. See attached photos. (Not a problem.  The bike speaks for itself – MCPOTD)

Cheers,
a big fan,
Mark

So here is John’s Hodaka. Stay tuned for more of Marks stuff (or like I said, do yourself a favor and head on over to his site). Amazing stuff.

Super cool Hodaka Super RAT!

Was kicking around Craigslist for the heck of it and stumbled across this ridiculously cool tricked out Hodaka!  And as of the Date of this post, it’s For Sale.  Again, NOT mine.  Don’t know the owner.

Man there’s a LOT of love in this build..

From the AD:

1974 Hodaka Super Rat Model 98. This bike won the 100cc Florida Vintage Motocross Series in 2011. It has a PVL ignition, Harry Taylor Gen3 Up-Pipe, Ohlins rear shocks, front end is from a Thunderdog 250, 1″ extended swingarm, Excel rims and much more. If you want a bike to win the 100cc class this is it.
